How to turn dating into a relationship?

Here you are on another date with a very special someone. You feel confident and comfortable or maybe even start falling in love. You know it's time to be exclusive and take your relationship to the next level.

So, how do you do that?

If you are sure you’re ready to take a leap and turn your casual thing into a relationship, here are some ways to do it.

  • Be clear about your intentions.

Talk with your partner about transitioning to something more serious and bringing the relationship to another level. Discuss your boundaries, and willingness to make certain concessions that will allow you to work out, and discuss expectations as it is one of the most important things for the future of a relationship. Align your goals and ensure you’re not hoping for the things that won’t happen.

  • Be ready to go “all-in”.

Unlike in casual dating, in relationships you should be willing to deal with the obstacles you have along the way. The relationship means teamwork and unity regardless of the severity of a problem.

If you want to turn dating into a relationship, make sure you’re ready to deal with anything that might challenge your love. Make sure you’re ready to be a part of the team, include your partner in your daily life, and become a part of theirs too.

  • Make sure you have common values.

If you don't share the same or similar values, ideas and goals, you'll have a hard time maintaining your relationship. Before switching to something more serious, discuss where you see yourself in five years and check if your life plans align. If you want to travel the world and meet people together, and they are not ready for any relocations and two childhood friends are the only people they need, it's an obvious mismatch.

  • Connect on a deeper level

Next time you want to schedule a date, make sure to think beyond drinks, dinner, and movies. Go somewhere where you won't check your phone as often, and where you both will have to be fully present. Think about going to escape rooms, cooking class, or spend a day hiking.

Activities like these will help you improve your relationship and create stronger bonds. It will also help you get insights into how your date feels and whether you should pursue something more serious or not.
